19.11 SPEED GOVERNOR SETTINGS
This function enables you to adjust the settings of a speed
governor (regulator) from the transmitter. The nominal value of
the governor can be entered in the form of a percentage value,
and a switch can be programmed for setting the nominal rota-
tional speed to any of three values (Rate 1, 2 or 3). As with
many functions, it is also possible to determine whether the
settings are to apply to all flight modes (Glob) or only to the
currently activated flight mode (Sepa). A transmitter control
can be assigned for fine-tuning this function.
When you activate the ‘Speed Gov’ function, the screen looks
like this:
The menu features three identical levels which are used to
enter three different gain levels (Rates 1 - 3). This function
must first be activated in the Status line in the usual way by
marking the appropriate field; the field then switches to ‘OFF’
or ‘ON’, according to the physical position of the switch.
In the ‘Rate’ column you can enter the percentage value for
the nominal rotational speeds 1, 2 and 3 by marking the field
and entering the setting using the arrow buttons. The adjust-
ment range is from ‘Off’ via 0% to 110%. The default setting is
50%; pressing the ‘Reset’ button restores the default setting.
A switch can be defined in the ‘Switch’ column using the stan-
dard procedure: mark the appropriate field and define the des-
ired switch and its direction of operation in the switch select
menu which then appears. The default setting is ‘NONE’; at
this setting the governor operates at the nominal rotational
speed set on the unit itself. The effects and method of setting
the ‘Glob’ or ‘Sepa’ mode have already been described; the
function is programmed in the ‘Mode’ column.
If you wish, you can change the unit for rotational speed dis-
played on the screen. The two options are a percentage value
and a direct rotational speed (rpm). To change this, simply
mark the right field in the first line; the change takes effect
immediately.
A separate frame is available for each speed, in which you can
carry out fine-tuning. The first step is to select a transmitter
control in the time-honoured fashion: mark the appropriate
field and define the transmitter control or switch you wish to
use in the select menu which subsequently appears.
When you have marked the column of the corresponding field,
you can use the arrow buttons to enter the fine-tuning rate.
The adjustment range is 0% to 20%, or between 0 and 200
revolutions (rpm). If you need to reverse the direction of effect,
mark the field containing the prefix, which then changes from
‘+’ to ‘-’; the fine-tuning then works in the opposite direction to
the previous setting.
On the right side of the screen you will find a separate field
(Set GOV) in which you can calibrate the rotational speeds in
the transmitter to those of the GV-1 speed governor. Activate
the speed pre-set (Rate 1, 2 or 3) for which you wish to carry
out the calibration, then select the rotational speed display
which is closest to the desired speed, and mark the corres-
ponding field; three speeds (1000 rpm, 1500 rpm and 2000
rpm) are available for this. The pre-set is now displayed in bra-
ckets in the ‘Rate’ column. You must now switch the GV-1
speed governor to set-up mode, and set the same nominal
speed on the unit. The two displays are now calibrated in the
same way.
This screen shot shows a typical example of completed pro-
gramming for a speed governor.
