13.6 PAPER FEED FROM DUPLEX TRAY
13.6.1 Tray Lift Mechanism
The rotation of the duplex feed motor [A] is transmitted to the cam clutch gear
[B] through a series of idle gears. When the duplex feed motor rotates
clockwise, the cam clutch gear also rotates clockwise. Then the spring inside
the cam clutch [C] is tightened and the cam clutch rotates clockwise. The pin
[D] on the cam clutch lifts up the duplex lift lever [E] through a lift spring,
raising the duplex bottom plate [F].
When the cam clutch is caught by the cam stopper bracket [G], the clutch
spring is loosened to keep the duplex bottom plate up. The bottom plate
pressure against the duplex feed roller is also maintained by this mechanism.
When the duplex feed motor rotates counterclockwise, the clutch spring is
loosened completely and the bottom plate lowers by its own weight.
When the main switch is turned on, the duplex bottom plate lowers then
raises to check if there is paper in the duplex tray or not, using a duplex
paper end sensor. During stand-by conditions the duplex bottom plate stays
in the up position.
