13.7 DUPLEX TRAY LOCK MECHANISM
A tray lock solenoid is installed for the duplex tray on the rear side frame like
for paper trays. The location of the tray lock solenoid is on the left side rail but
that of the duplex tray lock solenoid is on the right side rail.
When the start key is pressed in duplex mode, the duplex tray lock solenoid
is energized and the tray lock lever catches the rear part of the right tray rail.
This is to prevent the duplex tray from being pulled out while the paper is fed
into or fed out from the duplex tray.
Also in the case of the duplex mode, when a paper jam happens between the
junction gate and the duplex entrance gate (both the junction gate and the
duplex entrance sensors [A, B] are activated) or between the duplex feed
roller and the upper relay rollers (the upper relay sensor [C] is activated), the
duplex tray lock solenoid turns on. In the case of the overlay mode, when a
paper jam happens between the junction gate and the duplex entrance gate,
or between the duplex turn gate and the upper relay rollers (both the duplex
turn gate [D] and the upper relay sensors are activated), the duplex tray lock
solenoid turns on.
These are to prevent the jammed paper from being torn to pieces by pulling
out the duplex tray before clearing the jammed paper.
When the jammed paper is cleared and either of the sensors is deactivated,
the duplex tray lock solenoid is de-energized even when the copier front door
is open. Then the duplex tray can be pulled out.
