b) Adjusting the Toothbelt Tension
The long toothbelt between the front and rear
axles can elongate slightly after a while. This is
normal.
To prevent the teeth of the tooth belt from slip-
ping and being damaged, the toothbelt’s tension
must be checked after each drive.
Use the integrated belt tensioner (see arrow in
the figure to the right) to correct the belt tension.
For this, loosen the attachment of the belt
tensioner and set the belt tension.
The tooth belt must not be too tight, since this would also increase wear. It would also slightly increase
power consumption.
When the belt is too loose, the teeth will slip at acceleration or braking (short rattling audible), which will
damage them!
The belt tension of the short drive belts in the differentials cannot be set. Their very low elongation (due to the short
belt length) is not important.
