Starter Motor
Brushes and Springs
Check the brushes for wear.
When brush length is 9.5 mm(0.37in) or less Replace with new one.
Inspect insulation between brush holders.
If conductive, determine cause or replace insulation.
Brush spring tension
When there is a loss of tension replace spring.
Armature
Measure t h e de pt h of t h e i n s u l a t o r o n t he commutator.
When the distance at location ® does not fall within the 0.5 to 0.8
mm (0.02to0.03in) range or when deformed from excessive wear
,repair the teeth attached to the plate so that they conform to the
designated range.
To r e m o v e excessiv e c a r b o n b u i l d u p on the
commutator, select a sand paper in the #500 to
#600 range.
