AUDIO RETURN CHANNEL (ARC)
What is Audio Return Channel (ARC)?
Fig 1: This is a traditional setup in typical home entertainment with a sound system.
Fig 2: With the Smart TV, most of the media boxes are built-in, but without ARC, a S/PDIF, coaxial or
stereo cable is needed to push audio out to the amplifier.
Fig 3: With ARC, the need for additional cables are eliminated. The audio is routed back to the video
matrix via HDMI and then to the amplifier.
