A capacitor discharge tool is used to discharge the energy storage capacitor (see

) and the pacing capacitor (see

The illustration shows how the biphasic capacitor discharge tool is constructed. The materials used in
this example are:

Capacitor discharge tools that are not designed and labeled for

biphasic use are inadequate for use on biphasic defibrillators and will take several
minutes to discharge the energy capacitor.
