Adding and Deleting Diluents
Mar 2014
4-29
a.
Case 1
: If the parameters of the diluent are known only at a certain temperature (for
example, 30 °C), enter the temperature as 30 °C and the corresponding Refractive
Index, Viscosity, and Dielectric Constant values of the diluent (use the fields in the
Diluent Temperature List group).
Select
Manual [Fixed]
next to each parameter.
b.
Case 2
: If the parameters of the diluent are known at a different temperature, a table
can be built (the software uses any of these parameters for the temperatures at which
the parameters are not directly available) from the fitting curves to determine the
particle size or zeta potential.
For example: to create the table using the Refractive Index, enter the Refractive Indi-
ces of the diluent for the known temperatures (for example, 15 °C, 20 °C, and 30 °C).
To obtain the Refractive Index of the diluent at a different temperature (say, 25 °C,
which is not listed in the table), enter the temperature as 25 °C in the
Temperature
column, and select
Auto
next to the parameter. Use one of the Calculated Coefficients
that best fits the Refractive Index; click
Add to Diluent Parameter Lis
t.
The software automatically picks the values of the Diluent Refractive Index, Viscosity,
and Dielectric Constant from the table for the temperature at which these values are
not available, provided the table is built for that diluent.
3.
Select
Add to List
on the menu bar; click
OK
to close the dialog.
Deleting a Diluent
• Default diluents cannot be deleted
• Deleted diluents cannot be recovered
1.
Click
Diluent List
from the task options in the Diluent Properties panel; the Select
Diluent List dialog is displayed.
2.
Select the name of the diluent you wish to delete from the diluent list, then click
Delete
on the menu bar.
