6.16. OIL SPECIFICATION

In general, we recommend referring to the latest ROTAX 912 Series engine operator’s manual to check for

suitable
engine oil. Nevertheless, general recommendations about lubricants are shown below.

At the selection of suitable lubricants also refer to the ROTAX Service Information SI-912-016, latest edition.

The use of multi-grade oils is recommended. Multi-viscosity grade oils are less sensitive to temperature
variations than single-grade oils. They are suitable for use in all seasons, ensure rapid lubrication of all
engine components at cold start and multi- viscosity oils get less fluid at higher temperatures.

Due to high stresses in the reduction gears, oils with gear additives such as high-performance
motorcycle oils are required.

Because of the incorporated overload clutch, oils with friction modifier additives are unsuitable as this
could result in clutch slippage during normal operation.

Oil consumption max. 0.06 l/h (0.13 liq pt/h)

Oil capacity without oil cooler and connecting lines min. 3 l (0.8 US gal) depending on the respective installation.

6.17. COOLANT SPECIFICATION

G12 ANTIFREEZE and water should be used (mixture ratio: 1:1).

Aircraft’s coolant system volume is 1.5 liters (prox. 0,4 gal).

Conventional coolant mixed with water has the advantage of a higher specific thermal capacity than
waterless coolant. When correctly applied, there is a sufficient protection against vapor bubble formation,
freezing or thickening of the coolant within the operating limits.

CAUTION!

ENGINE OIL SHOULD BE REPLACED EVERY 100 HOURS FLOWN!

ATTENTION!

OBEY THE LATEST EDITION OF ROTAX SERVICE INSTRUCTION SI-912-016, FOR THE

SELECTION OF THE CORRECT COOLANT.
