CX3641 Advanced Technical User Guide
Resolution
Resolution is expressed in “dots per inch” or “dpi” (it is the number of
individual dots of ink a printer can produce within one linear inch or
2.54 cm).
•
The
higher
the Resolution, the higher (and better) the detail
•
The
lower
the Resolution, the lower the detail
In addition, the Resolution affects the
enlargement
of an image. Scan
images at the appropriate resolution for their intended use (i.e., to
see small details that you want to be able to enlarge, scan at a higher
resolution).
When you select a resolution, note that you should consider how your
file or document will be used. There are different kinds of resolution
to think about: the resolution of the scanner (this the resolution that
you are setting), the resolution of a computer monitor where the
image may be viewed, and the resolution of an output device like a
printer. A high resolution is not necessary for many types of originals
— a setting of 150 to 200 dpi may capture all the available
information.
For
best quality
: choose a higher number
For
smaller file size
: choose a lower number
