Routing Mode

Routing mode requires the following IP address assignments: 

IP Address

Description

LAN IP Address

Passport 4400 routing mode requires one or more LAN IP 
addresses. If the unit is multihomed, each of the IP addresses 
must be in a 

distinct LAN segment. 

For example, if the Subnet Mask is 255.255.255.0, then 
192.168.111.31 and 192.168.111.32 are in the same LAN 
segment, whereas 192.168.222.33 is in a different LAN 
segment.

PPP IP Address

This is the IP address of the PPP segment. It must be in a 
different segment from the WAN IP address and LAN IP 
addresses that you configure. By default, the Passport 4400 
assigns 192.168.200.200 to this segment. If you plan to use this 
segment to access remote Passport 4400s, you must change 
this IP address to avoid IP address conflicts with other 
Passport 4400s. 

Install Tool automatically calculates an IP address mask and a 
broadcast address for the PPP segment.

Note: The Passport 4400 assigns an IP address to the PC at the 
time a connection is established. This address is equal to the 
PPP IP address plus one. For example, if you assign 
192.168.10.10 to the PPP segment, the Passport 4400 assigns 
192.168.10.11 to the PC. The PC IP address is not used in 
routing mode.

WAN IP Address

This is the IP address of the WAN segment. It must be on a 
different segment from the LAN IP addresses and the PPP IP 
address that you configure.

If you are configuring a central node, you will assign a WAN IP 
address to each link. Each address must be in the same 
segment as the WAN IP address at the other end of the link.
