Using Passport 4400 Install Tool Version 4.2
IP Address Requirements
The following paragraphs describe the IP address requirements for bridging and
routing modes.
Bridging Mode
Bridging mode requires the following IP address assignments:
IP Address
Description
Passport 4400 IP Address
Passport 4400 bridging mode requires one or more IP
addresses. If the unit is multihomed, each of the Bridge IP
addresses must be in a
distinct LAN segment.
For example, if the Subnet Mask is 255.255.255.0, then
192.168.111.11 and 192.168.222.11 are each in a distinct
LAN segment.
PC Dial-in IP Address
This is the IP address that the Passport 4400 assigns to the
PC when you establish a dial-up connection through the
management port. This IP address must be in the same
segment as the Bridge IP address. Note that If the unit is
multihomed, your workstation will be able to communication
only with the IP addresses in that particular segment.
Caution: Do
not use the PC’s LAN IP address for this field.
The PC’s Dial-in IP Address and its LAN IP address are
each associated with a different interface in the PC. These
IP addresses cannot be the same. If you use the PC’s LAN
IP address for this field, you will not be able to communicate
with the Passport 4400, and you may lose network
connectivity over the Ethernet interface, as well.
