The purpose of these two IP addresses is to enable out-of-the-box IP connectivity
on a new Passport 4400.
A factory-defaulted Passport 4400 initializes to Bridging mode. Therefore, any
interface (Ethernet, WAN, or PPP over the management port) can access the unit
using the default IP address (192.168.200.200).
Bridging and Routing Modes
You configure a Passport 4400 for either bridging or routing mode. The following
paragraphs describe the IP address assignments for each of these.
Basic Configuration Tasks
To enable a Passport 4400 for routing or bridging, you must perform the following
configuration tasks, in this order:
•
Connect a workstation to the Passport 4400 management port, either directly
or through a modem. (Refer to
“Connecting a Workstation” on page 27
for
more information.)
•
Start Install Tool.
•
Configure the required system information. (You can use the Basic Wizard to
do this.)
•
Enter the required bridging or routing parameters (as described in
“IP Address
Requirements” on page 115
).
•
Perform a Save & Reset operation.
When the Passport 4400 resumes operations, it will use the IP addresses that you
assigned in the bridging or routing configuration dialog panels.
Caution:
Since all Passport 4400 units are shipped with the same IP
address, you must assign a unique IP address to a unit before attempting
to connect to any remote nodes.
