CMOS Battery Removal
Remove the 3-volt lithium battery from the system board as follows.
1.
Remove the support plate from the system board (see “Support Plate
Removal” earlier in this section).
2.
Turn the system board over with the processor side facing down and locate
the battery (see the preceding figure “Removing the PC Card Bay” for
battery location).
3.
Insert a small flat blade screwdriver in front of pry point (
B
) and carefully
pry up on the battery to release it from its socket.

The battery can explode if it is incorrectly replaced or
improperly discarded. Use only the same type battery or an
equivalent type recommended by the manufacturer when
replacing the battery.
Lithium acts as a catalyst when exposed to water and
causes spontaneous combustion on contact. Discard used
batteries according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
4.
Remove the battery and discard it in accordance with the manufacturer’s
instructions.
5.
With the positive (+) side facing up, press the new battery into the socket.
6.
After reassembling the system unit, run Setup to reconfigure system
parameters (see Section 2, “System Configuration”) according to the settings
previously recorded.
