1-12 System Overview
LCD Panel
The LCD panel uses a 15-inch, twisted nematic Thin Film Transistor (TFT)
Super Video Graphics Array (SVGA) color screen. The screen has a brightness
of 200 candlepower, a maximum resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels, and supports
up to 16.8 million colors (True Color).
The LCD panel screen automatically turns on when the system power button is
pressed. If an optional VGA monitor is attached to the system, the monitor can
be turned on for simultaneous viewing on the monitor and the LCD panel.
An increase brightness button and a decrease brightness button on the panel
allows the user to increase or decrease display brightness. The buttons provide
eight levels of brightness.
The default power up brightness level is maximum brightness. Powering off the
system or unplugging the system from the power outlet changes any new
brightness stetting back to the default setting.
The LCD panel is adjustable up or down and side-to-side for a comfortable
viewing position. Two 1-watt speakers are built into the base of the LCD panel.
Diskette Drive
A single diskette drive is supported in the system. The installed 1.44-MB
3 1/2-inch mobile diskette drive is connected by a single signal and power
ribbon cable connected to the system board. There are no switches or jumpers to
set and the diskette drive is terminated.
Diskette drive specifications are given in Section 9, “Specifications.”
Hard Drive
All systems ship with either a 6.0-GB or 12.0-GB 3 1/2-inch mobile EIDE hard
drive installed on the right side of the system unit. The hard drive is connected
to the system board by a single signal and power ribbon cable.
Hard drive jumper settings are given in Section 2, “System Configuration.”
Connector locations for the EIDE hard drive connector on the system board are
given in Section 4, “System Board.” Hard drive specifications are given in
Section 9, “Specifications.”
CD-ROM Drive
All systems come with a 24X CD-ROM drive. The drive features up to
24-speed technology, giving faster data transfer and smoother animation and
video. The drive is compatible with Kodak Multisession Photo CDs™, CD-I,
FMV, and CD Plus, as well as standard CDs. The CD-ROM drive can also play
audio CDs (for systems with sound capabilities).
The CD-ROM drive comes with an EIDE interface. The drive’s single signal
and power ribbon cable connects to the system board.
CD-ROM jumper settings are included in Section 2, “System Configuration.”
Specifications for the CD-ROM drive are in Section 9, “System Specifications.”
