Getting Started
Note: Any terms used here that are unclear to you right now will be explained in
detail in the coming pages.

Control Panel — The keys you use to operate your machine. (See pages
1.4–1.5 for more details.)

Multi purpose cassette — Where you put the recording paper. Holds up to
275 sheets of various sized paper.

2nd paper cassette — Where you put the recording paper. Holds up to 550
sheets, either letter or legal-sized paper.

Recording paper size / level indication lamp — Place the paper size sticker
here. The lamp shows the level of the current paper supply without requiring
you to open the paper cassette. It will blink when the remaining papers become
few and will light when the paper is completely gone.

Side cover — Open this to fix printout jams in the cassette.

Bypass tray — Use this when you want to copy onto transparency film,
thick paper, envelopes or post cards.

Printer cover release (R

) — Pull up this to open the printer cover.

Printer cover — Open this to fix printout jams or change the drum cartridge.

Fuser cover release (R

) — Push this to open the fuser cover.

Fuser cover — Open this to fix printout jams in the fuser.

Original document exit — Where the original document comes out.

Document tray — Holds original documents.

Document guide — Adjust this to fit the width of the original document so it
will feed properly into the machine.

ADF
cover — Open this by using the
ADF
cover release to remove original docu-
ment paper jams.

ADF
cover release — Pull up this to open the
ADF
cover.

Document insert indication lamp — The green arrow will appear when the
document is set. If the document is jammed, it will blink.

Platen cover — Open this to scan an original document using the flatbed scan-
ner (
FBS
).

AC
power switch — Turns your machine on and off. Usually it should be on. (If
it is off, the machine cannot receive a fax message.)
