Using the Data Display
T
he 831C takes a measurement, and simultaneously displays that
same information in a variety of ways. Using the 831C tabs (select left
or right) and their associated pages (scroll down and up), you can take
a measurement and view the following metrics at the same time:
• Real time sound metrics
• Frequency of sound at each octave
• L
eq
, L
S
, L
PEAK
of the overall or live sound
• Fast and Impulse detectors
• Temperature, GPS, and elevation of the measured sound
• The current sound, weighted for specific values

When the 831C is powered on, the Live tab is the first display you’ll see.
Since the values on the Live tab show active, real-time values that the
meter is currently sensing, this page is not controlled by the

(RUN/
PAUSE) button. This allows you to view the current SPL without
disrupting your measured data.
