Emptying the gas circuit
▶
Before important repairs (i.e. welding) on the vehicle or engine the gas system must be ventil-
ated with air.
It is normally sufficient to partially discharge the circuit, in other words, to discharge only the pipes and not the cylinders; however
in some cases it may be necessary to discharge the entire system (including the cylinders).
This must be decided on a case by case basis, depending on the importance and type of work being done.
In case of uncertainty, always opt for the safer solution (complete discharge).
If there are no problems in the circuit (e.g., leaks), it is preferable to use up the gas with the engine.
Running the engine with the circuit pressure below 20 bar may result in incorrect fuel dosing.
Note
Below 20 bar, the engine should only be idled to prevent damaging the catalytic converter.
The subsequent emptying must be done with the engine switched off and out in the open in an area where there are no sources of
flame or sparks within a radius of at least 5 metres around the vehicle.
