neutral positions, and move the hy-
draulic quadrant levers to the ‘DOWN’
position.
4. Open the hand throttle halfway.
5. Push the fuel cut-off control fully ‘IN’.
6. Turn the starter switch key fully clock-
wise to operate the starter. When the
engine starts, allow the key to return
to the auxiliary position.
7. Set the hand throttle to a fast idle po-
sition (approximately 1200 rev/min)
for two or three minutes, before put-
ting the engine under heavy load.
8. If the engine does not start and run af-
ter using the normal starting procedure:
a. Check the fuel level in the fuel tank.
b. Check the condition of the battery.
c. Use the cold weather starting pro-
cedure.
d. Remove the air from the fuel sys-
tem, using the procedure detailed
in the Maintenance and Adjustment
Section on page 70.
e. If the engine still fails to start, con-
tact your ITMCO. Dealer for assis-
tance.
NORMAL STARTING - COLD
WEATHER (THERMOSTART) Fig. 2
WARNING
On tractors with hydrostatic steering
full power steering is not immediately
available when the tractor is started in
very cold conditions, below 0°C (32°F). In
these conditions allow the tractor engine
to run for three minutes before driving
the tractor.
Fig. 2:
If, in an emergency, it is necessary
to use an aerosol can of starting fluid or
ether, the thermostart must be discon-
nected. Disconnect the terminal wire from
the thermostart on the intake manifold
(Fig. 2) and insulate the free end of the
wire.
Use the thermostart, particularly in
temperatures below 0°C (32°F). The ther-
mostart consists of a heating element
installed in the inlet manifold. When op-
erated by the key-start switch, the ther-
mostart will ignite fuel in the manifold to
heat the air before entering the combus-
tion chamber. Starting procedure is as
follows:
1. If the fuel system has been disturbed,
the tractor has been standing unused or
the thermostart has not been used for
some time, ensure that fuel is avail-
able at the thermostart before use.
Operate the fuel pump hand priming
lever (Fig.1) several times and slacken
the thermostart union, allowing fuel
to seep out. Then tighten the union.
Failure to observe this precaution may
result in a discharged battery.
2. Ensure that the parking brake is en-
gaged.
3. To engage the safety start switches,
move all the gear shift levers and the
PTO engagement shift lever to the
