INSYS WLAN serial 2.1

Establishing a Network Connection

The INSYS WLAN serial 2.1 can establish a connection to a remote terminal that can be
reached via the network. The INSYS WLAN serial 2.1 can either use the IP address or a
host name as connection destination with this. If the INSYS WLAN serial 2.1 has estab-
lished a connection, it will output the data coming in on the serial interface in TCP or
UDP packets on the network connection. The INSYS WLAN serial 2.1 will output data of
incoming packets on its serial interface. A connection establishment must be initiated by
a dial-up command due to reasons of modem compatibility. The dial-up command does
also specify the network protocol of the connection. The INSYS WLAN serial 2.1 can es-
tablish TCP and UDP connections.

Configuration with HSComm

You can establish a network connection using the configuration software only
via the integrated terminal program. Then, use below AT commands.

Configuration with AT commands

In order to

establish a network connection

use the command

Enter for

<hostname>

 either the IP address or

the host name of the remote terminal. If you
use a host name, the name server addresses
must have been configured in the INSYS WLAN
serial 2.1.

Enter instead of

<port>

 the target port of the

remote terminal.

ATD<hostname>:<port>

In order to

establish a TCP connection

, use the

command

ATDT<hostname>:<port>

In order to

establish a UDP connection

, use the

command

ATDU<hostname>:<port>

11.9

Accepting Incoming Network Connection Automatically

The INSYS WLAN serial 2.1 can accept an incoming network connection and output the
data of the incoming packets on the serial interface. The other way round, the INSYS
WLAN serial 2.1 sends data incoming on the serial interface as packets over the accepted
network connection to the remote terminal.
The INSYS WLAN serial 2.1 accepts the connection on the port and under the protocol
configured under IP settings. Due to the modem compatibility, the INSYS WLAN serial 2.1
processes incoming connection requests (TCP-SYN packets or empty UDP packets) as
"ring tones". The number of incoming TCP-SYN packets or empty UDP packets that reach
the INSYS WLAN serial 2.1 before a connection is accepted can be configured. The INSYS
WLAN serial 2.1 can close the connection using the "Idle connection control – Data
Transmit Control" function, if no data has been transmitted via the connection for a cer-
tain time.
