Installing Remote Access Service
Before you install Remote Access Service, check the User’s
Guide for your notebook to see whether your system has an
integrated analog modem. If so, install the modem driver ac-
cording to the instructions in the User’s Guide, or contact the
notebook manufacturer’s technical support.
Also make sure that you have at least one physical COM port
available in your Windows NT 4.0 Workstation system. Dou-
ble-click the “Ports” applet in the Control Panel to obtain this
information.

Double-click the “My Computer” icon on the Windows
NT 4.0 Workstation Desktop, then double-click “Dial-Up
Networking”. If a dialog appears informing you that Di-
al-Up Networking is not installed on your system, then
click “Install”.

The “Files Needed” dialog prompts you for the source
directory of your Windows NT 4.0 Workstation Setup
files. Enter the correct path in the “Copy files from”
field, then click “OK”. Windows NT installs the neces-
sary files.

Once these files have been installed, the RAS setup
searches for a RAS-capable device. Click “OK” to start
the modem installer.

When the modem installer has started, check the op-
tion “Don't detect my modem; I will select it from a list”,
