2. Turn off the server and peripheral devices and disconnect all power cords and
external cables; then, remove the server from the rack.
3. Remove the server cover (see “Removing the cover” on page 31).
4. Disconnect the cable of the failing fan from the connector.
5. Lift the fan out of the server.
6. If you are instructed to return the fan, follow all packaging instructions, and use
any packaging materials for shipping that are supplied to you.
Installing a fan
Alignment pins
Attention: To ensure proper server operation, do not operate the server with a
failed fan.
To replace a fan, complete the following steps:
1. Read the safety information that begins on page vii and “Installation guidelines”
on page 29.
2. Push the fan assembly down into the server until it seats.
3. Connect the cable of the replacement fan to the connector.
4. Install the cover (see “Installing the cover” on page 31).
5. Slide the server into the rack.
6. Reconnect the power cords and any cables that you removed.
7. Turn on the peripheral devices and the server.
Removing the system-board battery
To remove the system-board battery, complete the following steps.
1. Read the safety information that begins on page vii and “Installation guidelines”
on page 29.
