1. Read the safety information that begins on page vii and “Installation guidelines”
on page 29.
2. Turn off the server and peripheral devices and disconnect all power cords and
external cables; then, remove the server from the rack.
3. Remove the server cover (see “Removing the cover” on page 31).
4. Remove the CD or DVD drive from the server (see “Removing the CD or DVD
drive” on page 36).
5. Remove the front hard disk drive cage from the server (see “Removing the front
hard disk drive cage assembly” on page 53).
6. Disconnect the power cable and the signal cable from the hard disk drive.
7. Place the drive-cage assembly on a flat, static-protective surface.
8. Remove the four drive mounting screws from the sides of the drive cage and
slide the drive out of the cage.
9. If you are instructed to return the drive, follow all packaging instructions, and
use any packaging materials for shipping that are supplied to you.
Installing the front hard disk drive
Locate the documentation that comes with the hard disk drive and follow those
instructions in addition to the instructions in this chapter.
To install the front hard disk drive, complete the following steps.
