Sideways flight (Side-Slide)
English
The handles are held in the neutral position to stop the push forward
via the leading edge.
The kite then flies in the direction of its longitudinal axis by slightly
shifting the handles against each other. The flying speed is low here,
so that the kite comes closer to a floating state.
It requires some practice to keep the kite straight only with small cor-
rective wrist movements.
In this flying manoeuvre, the flying speed depends on the degree to
which the hands are shifted against each other. However, too large a
shift can cause the kite’s air flow to be disrupted, so that it collapses.
Increased attention is required, especially at the edge of the wind
window.
Naturally, this works not only in the horizontal direction, but in all
directions. As a next step, try to set the kite vertically on one wingtip
and fly it up and down in this position.
