The CD tray doesn't open when the
button is pressed.
Is the drive in operation? If a CD is being written there may be a delay before the
tray comes out. If there is no activity, check for signs that it is powered on. If it is,
there may be problem and you should

Using Disaster Recovery CD-ROMs
The computer doesn't boot from the CD
drive.
Make sure that the CD in the drive is the first of the set, as this is the bootable one.
Also check if CD-rewritable media has been used, as it can only be read on CD-RW
compatible drives. Next, has the system checked for media in the CD drive? The
"activity" LED on the drive usually blinks if the drive is checking. If not, then the
system BIOS is not configured to check the CD drive when booting. This can be
altered when the computer begins to boot. As soon as the computer is powered on,
the BIOS settings can be changed. To halt the boot and alter the settings a key press
is required:
For Omnibooks, Brio, Vectra and Kayak press ESC twice during bootup to bring
up the boot menu. If this does not work, use F2 to bring up the BIOS settings menu.
Change the settings so that the computer checks the CD-ROM as a bootable drive
and the boot order is set . Before exiting and saving these new settings, insert the first
disk in the disaster recovery set (if appropriate). Once exited, the computer should
boot from the CD-ROM.
For Toshiba computers, insert the first CD-ROM in the disaster recovery set into the
CD-ROM drive, and then press "C" during bootup to force the computer to boot from
the CD-ROM. Note that booting from the Disaster Recovery CD-ROM is the
preferred solution for Toshiba computers, since it can take up to half an hour to boot
from the Disaster Recovery floppy disk.
Note that the bootable CD-ROMs only have drivers for EIDE CD-ROM drives. SCSI
CD-ROM drives can only be used by using a disaster recovery floppy disk with the
appropriate drivers loaded onto it. Details of how to do this can be found in the
disaster recovery by floppy disk
part of the manual.
The installation process begins but
crashes.
