disaster recovery The process of restoring a (protected) computer from an unusable
state to its state as of a specific backup date. This involves the
creation of one or more
CD-ROM
s and possibly a
boot floppy
by
the backup system administrator. There are several ways to
perform disaster recovery, depending on the type of computer
used and whether it still has network access to its appliance.
Note that any information stored on the computer immediately
before a disaster recovery will be lost (unless included in the
disaster recovery data set).

exception rule
There are two types of
retention rules
: exception rules (which
apply to specific files) and default rules (which apply to files that
don't fall under an exception rule). These rules can be created
from the
Client Backup Agent
, but only if authorized.
excluded files
Files that are excluded from the backup. These are normally
temporary files, but could also be private files that the client does
not want to back up.

full backup
Full backups include all files on a selected set of drives (which
always includes the system volume), plus the Windows Registry
and disk partition information.
Disaster recovery
can only be
performed from a Full Backup.

baseline backup
is a full backup.

The brand name of the suite of products for performing automated
computer backup, including the appliance hardware and software,
