Appendix 5 - RFC 1490 Decode

RFC1490 - Multiprotocol interconnect over Frame Relay
describes an encapsulation method for carrying network
interconnect traffic over Frame Relay.

aurora

Tempo

decodes IP Internet (0xCC) and IEEE SNAP

(0x80) messages encoded using RFC1490 in detail.

IP Internet (NLPID 0xCC)

IP messages are identified by the NLPID 0xCC. All fields of
the IP header are decoded, including the Options field.

Tempo

also decodes ICMP (Internet Control Message

Protocol) messages, (except where it would involve
decoding an embedded 64 bits of original
datagram).

IEEE SNAP (NLPID 0x80)

For protocols that do not have a NLPID already assigned,
there is a mechanism that enables easy recognition of a
protocol. A NLPID value 0x80 indicates the presence of a
SNAP header. The SNAP header is made up of a 3 octet OUI
(Organisationally Unique Identifier) followed by a 2 octet
PID (Protocol Indentifier)

decodes two types of OUI - 802.1 (00-80-C2) and

Ethertype (00-00-00).
