nterface. The LMI was conceived by the
standards bodies as an optional enhancement to the basic
Frame Relay protocol. The LMI uses special management
frames to monitor the status of the link and provide
information on the PVCs and the Frame Relay interface.
These frames, which have a unique DLCI address of zero, are
passed between the network and the access device.
Loop
A loop is used to redirect data. There are 2 types of loop -
remote and local.

Modem
A modem is a device which converts digital signals into
analog tones which can be passed through the telephone
network. A modem at the receiving end reverses this process
to recreate the original digital signal.
Multiframe
A set of consecutive frames. Used in digital transmission, in
which the position of each frame can be determined by a
multi-frame alignment signal covering the group of frames.
Multiplexer
A device which can send multiple signals over a single line.
The signals are then separated, by a similar device, at the
other end of the line.
Multiplexing
This is the process of enabling several users to share a
communication channel.
