That has covered the mains cable, the plug and fuse and the power socket. If they all
checked out OK you know you have power going into the appliance and the latch
assembly is working as it should.
It is not possible to test across the terminals on the door switch at this juncture: Refer to
DOOR SWITCH for details
Because of the differing resistance values on a circuit board and how each component
interlinks, it is not advisable to try metering it. If there is an obvious fault, such as the
copper track on the board has blown, do not think that this is the fault (it may well be) but
it could just as likely be the symptom of a short somewhere else in the machine, and just
replacing the board without locating the cause would only blow the new board.
Broken wires are also an issue to look for, and can be caused by a number of different
factors:
Did your last wash cause the machine to go out of balance? (Did it bang in spin).
You may have a trapped or broken wire inside the cabinet
Did the fuse blow or did you see a flash from the machine?
A wire may have rubbed against the cabinet and shorted out.
Did the machine stop in mid-cycle?
Check the ‘How a Washing Machine Works’ section to narrow search for fault.
Door seal has mouldy black marks on it
This occurs when the door is left closed after the washing has been removed, in some
cases this can be removed by putting the machine on a service wash i.e. the hottest
wash program on the machine with a good quality wash powder, no clothes and just
let it go through a normal wash, or you could use a very weak solution of bleach and
a cloth but if you are still unhappy then a new door seal is the only other answer.
Can’t open the door after wash has finished.
The door switch has not disengaged and this could be because there is still water in
the drum or the machine thinks there is. So you could have a pump out problem or a
pressure switch problem. If your machine took in more water than normal it will
probably be the pressure chamber is blocked. (If the pressure switch remains engaged
and there is power to the machine the door lock will stay operated).
Machine will not always spin properly
These machines are fitted with a system that detects if the load is out of balance and
to prevent damage it reduces the spin speed which in some cases prevents the motor
from spinning at all. If you only have one item in the drum this can cause an Out Of
Balance situation, try putting a towel in with the item so there is an even load around
the inside of the drum, or in the case of sheets take them out, unravel them and put
them back.
