Filtering Internet access
You can use the
Filter
menu to make settings that will enhance the security of your net-
work. You can
u
protect your LAN against ping attacks from the Internet (see below),
u
restrict Internet access to selected PC's and for selected services (see below), and
u
restrict access by members of your LAN to selected websites
Preventing ping attacks from the Internet
Ping is a command which can be used on the Internet to find out the existence of net-
work members. If your router is 'visible' on the Internet, it may be an easy target for
attack by hackers. You should therefore deselect this option.
For test purposes, trouble-shooting etc. it may be useful to reply to a ping, and you can
enable the option temporarily in this case.

menu, select
Internet Services
.

Select or deselect
WAN Port Ping Reply
.

Click on
APPLY
to apply the setting.
Restricting access of local PC's to the Internet
By default, your router is set up to allow all PC's that are logged on to it to use all Internet
services.
You can use the filter function to specify which PC's are allowed to use which service,
and so enhance the security of your LAN. To do this, use the
Filter
screen shown above.
