12.5.3 Replacing a slimline ODD or LSD
12.5.3.1 Required tools

Replacing a slimline ODD or LSD:
– Phillips PH2 / (+) No. 2 screw driver
– Slotted screw driver (for bending in or out accessible drive mounting
brackets)
12.5.3.2 Preliminary steps
Before replacing a slimline ODD or LSD, perform the following steps:
Ê
Locate the desired server as described in section "Locating the defective
server" on page 60 .
Ê
Remove all backup and optical disk media from backup and optical disk
drives as described in section
"Removing backup and optical disk media" on
page 136 .
Ê
Shut down the server as described in section "Shutting down the server" on
page 67 .
Ê
Remove the AC power cords from the PSU cable brackets and disconnect
them from the system as described in section
"Disconnecting the server
from the mains" on page 68 .
Ê
When working on a rack-mounted server, extend it out of the rack as
described in section
"Extending the server out of the rack" on page 72 .
If further required, remove the server from the rack as described in section
"Removing the server from the rack" on page 73 .
Ê
Open the side / top cover as described in section "Removing the top cover"
on page 75 (rack server) or "Removing the side cover" on page 84 (tower
server).
