E.2
Notes on Power Control
This section contains notes on power control.
E.2.1
Power-on from LAN
To power-on the main unit from the LAN, use the SMC menu window. Preparation of
a specific power control box is not required.
E.2.2
Characteristics of SMC
The SMC monitors the operation of the main unit. If an error is detected, the SMC
alerts the administrator. The SMC can act as a maintenance and monitoring console.
For this reason, the SMC must always be kept active even if the power supply to the
main unit is shut down.
If the SMC power is shut down, the main unit can be turned on from the operator
panel. However, it is recommended that you keep the SMC active.
E.2.3
Facility control
Several types of facility control are supported through RCI connection to an external
power control device (F7973RCI). The external power control device enables the
customer to link the system to the customer's existing facility, turn on the power of
individual units, and detect alarms on individual units. The external power control
device also enables the customer to use the operator call function via a contact
interface. Fujitsu and Fujitsu Siemens Computers recommend a system configuration
that is linked to the SMC for detailed control requirements, including separate power-
on of individual partitions. For details on facility control, consult a certified service
engineer.
E.2.4
Waiting for power-on
Before powering on the main unit, turn on the main line switch of I/O devices
connected to the RCI. If initialization of the I/O devices takes longer than
initialization of the main unit, set the OBP setting to a longer wait time. The main
unit will delay its initialization for the specified period of time.
For details on OBP setting, see
