washing action would enter the close running clearances of parts such as the pressure reducing sleeve,
seals, and impellers creating severe wear. For a pump active in the wash, wear occurs simultaneously
with circulation; for a passive pump, wear occurs during startup and continues until all the solid
particles are flushed out with the discharge. Thus to preclude such imminent damage to a Flowserve
multistage pump when using an acid or caustic wash to clean a system that includes the pump,
remove the internal assembly from the case and close off the seal cavities with blank plates, which
can be supplied by the factory. For further information contact your nearest Flowserve Sales Office
