CAUTION
Apply force slowly and steadily, directly against the pusher
adapter. There must be no side forces applied.
7. Set hydraulic ram squarely against the pusher adapter, and use ram to push internal assembly
completely into case (37).
8. Remove hydraulic ram, pusher adapter, assembly skid or carriage, and all lifting gear.
6.6.2 HEAD
The head fits closely with a clearance of 0.001 to 0.004 inch (0.03 to 0.10 millimeters) between the
head and bore of the case. Hence, you must take care to pull the head straight out of the case after
breaking it loose with jack screws; conversely, the head must be pushed straight into the case.
6.6.2.1 Assembling Head
Proceed with the assembly of the head as follows:
NOTE
For guidance in tack welding replacement parts, contact
your nearest Flowserve Sales Office (see PART ORDERING
AND SERVICING INFORMATION).
1. Cool pressure reducing bushing (65) in dry ice to shrink it enough to slide it into head. Secure
bushing with method employed originally by the factory (see step 2 under PUMP
DISASSEMBLY: HEAD above).
CAUTION
Failure to use inner head expansion gaskets and spacers that
are of the same thickness, diameter, material, quality, and
quantity as those supplied originally with the pump could
result in improper makeup of intermediate covers, the
suction spacer, and the discharge diffuser-spacer, causing
recirculation within the pump and in turn erosion,
particularly at its high pressure end, and decreased
efficiency.
2. Install original inner head gasket spacers (169), or precise replicas (see step 3, under HEAD:
DISASSEMBLY above), and new inner head expansion gaskets (243) so that they are
arranged as shown in the ASSEMBLY drawing (a spacer does not have a particular position
other than between gaskets) or install one-piece gasket (120), whichever is applicable to your
pump (see ASSEMBLY drawing).
3. Install discharge diffuser (280) on head (85) (if applicable).
5. Install new head gasket (22) on head (85).

To install the head on the case with a carriage, proceed as follows:
