IJ PUMP OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE MANUAL

BO2660-01
c. Place soft cable in eyebolt and pull cable straight back against coupling end of shaft and
toward free end of the pump, while positioning assembly with lifting equipment until
assembly begins to slide onto the track.
d. Move assembly completely onto track.
CAUTION
Tapped holes provided in the covers and spacer are for
handling of individual parts during assembly and
disassembly only, and are not stressed to lift the entire
assembly.
5. Lift end of internal assembly and place two nylon lifting straps or soft cables around the
internal assembly and position them so that the assembly is balanced between them.
6. Let internal assembly down onto track, remove hoist and cable from pressure reducing sleeve
(77) and attach hoist to straps placed in step 5.
CAUTION
Should you choose to move the internal assembly and track
as a unit, ensure that the internal assembly is secured to the
track with cable and tensioner before any movement of the
track.
7. Lift internal assembly from track and move it to repair area. Or move assembly and assembly
skid or carriage as a unit to the repair area. Remove lifting equipment.
6.4.6.2 Disassembling Internal Assembly
The disassembly sequence is determined by shaft design (the shaft is stepped up towards the coupling
end). All parts are removed from the free end of the shaft. This manual offers two methods for
disassembling the internal assembly: vertical and horizontal. The vertical method is preferred,
because it reduces the chances of damaging the register faces of the intermediate covers (33).
6.4.6.2.1 Interference Fit Part Removal
To remove an interference fit part, proceed with the following general procedure:
1. Before removing part, ensure that:
a. shaft is kept smooth and clean: scratched surfaces or dirt will further the possibility of
parts seizing to the shaft,
b. temperature of the shaft is kept within 20°F (11°C) of ambient air temperature by cooling
it with shop air, or by allowing it to cool in ambient air (do not cool the shaft by any
other means),
c. shaft is lubricated with a lubricant that is compatible with your pumpage, such as
powdery Molykote or Neolube (graphite in isopropanol),
d. for horizontal disassembly, ensure that the weight of the discharge spacer, intermediate
covers, or suction spacer will be supported during removal (with lifting gear, if
necessary) and that the shaft is protected with heat-resistant gasket material or equivalent
to prevent damage to the shaft due to dropped components.
