6.4 PUMP DISASSEMBLY
6.4.1 COUPLING REMOVAL
CAUTION
The procedures outlined in this subsection do not apply to
keyless hydraulic fit couplings. For installation or removal of
such couplings, refer to the applicable drawings in the back
of this manual or the APPENDIX.
Removal of the coupling halves should be performed by application of an even heat; hammering is
apt to distort the coupling or shaft, or otherwise cause damage.
The following work outlines include the basic steps that must be taken to remove the half-coupling
from the unit shafts. For more detailed information, see the coupling manufacturer's instructions in
the APPENDIX. The complete task of removing either half-coupling usually consists of:
1. removing the spacer that interconnects half-couplings,
2. sliding sleeve (also O-ring where used) of hub-and-sleeve type half-coupling back so that it is
clear of hub,
3. evenly heat hub of hub-and-sleeve type half coupling, or solid half-coupling, with welding
torch until you are able to pull hub off shaft with puller, then
4. removing sleeve with O-ring inside (where applicable) and
5. removing key from shaft.
6.4.2 MAIN LUBE OIL PUMP REMOVAL
These instructions provide for removal of a lubricating oil (lube oil) pump that is flange-mounted to
the outboard bearing housing end cover for direct and axial coupling of its shaft with the pump shaft.
If your pump is not equipped with such a lube oil pump, please disregard this section.
To remove the lube oil pump proceed as follows:
1. Place container under lube oil pump and outboard bearing housing to collect drainage.
2. Drain residual lube oil from outboard bearing housing (62) by removing drain plug.
3. Disconnect drain pipe from outboard bearing housing end cover (61).
4. Disconnect piping from lube oil pump.
5. Unbolt lube oil pump and pull it straight away from bearing housing end plate (61).
NOTE
If vibration probe or key phasor is installed, it should be
unnecessary to remove them unless the outboard bearings
are to be disassembled, in which case, these parts are
removed with the bearing housing end cover (see
BEARINGS).
