1.2.9.2 Pressure Switch
The lube oil system is factory-equipped with a pressure switch that is set to cut out the auxiliary lube
oil pump when the main lube oil pump comes up to pressure and to cut in and start the auxiliary pump
for lubrication during coastdown and in case the main pump fails in service.
1.2.9.3 Pressure Relief Valve
The pressure of the lube oil going to the bearings is controlled by a pressure relief valve. Excess lube
oil is discharged by the valve directly into the lube oil reservoir. There is a pressure relief valve in
both the main and auxiliary supply lines.
1.2.10 THERMAL EXPANSION
Aligning dowels and keys permit thermal expansion along the centerline of the pump and in the
horizontal plane perpendicular to the centerline, while prohibiting turning, and thereby maintain the
pump case in horizontal alignment with the driver. Mounting the pump case to the pedestals of the
baseplate in the horizontal plane that passes through the centerline of the shaft, sometimes referred to
as "centerline mounting," allows thermal growth to occur about the centerline of the shaft; thus
vertical misalignment of couplings due to thermal growth is avoided.
