BO2660-01 2-4
1. Remove sides and end of box.
2. Remove fastenings that hold assembly to box, then remove plastic cover.
3. Place nylon strap or soft cable around diffuser-cover, near center of assembly. The weight of
the suction spacer normally causes the inboard half of assembly to be heavier than outboard
half. If there is not enough space between diffuser-covers and bottom of box for cable:
a. place another cable around pressure reducing sleeve and attach it to hoist;
b. lift end of assembly just enough to place cable around lifting point and install the lifting
cable;
c. lower assembly onto lifting cable and remove cable from pressure reducing sleeve;
d. attach hoist to cable and start raising assembly;
e. verify that hoist is above center of gravity of assembly; if not, lower it and reset cable;
then
f. raise internal assembly from bottom of box and transport assembly.
2.1.3.4 Multistage Rotor
When the multistage rotor is going to storage, handle it as described under STORAGE. Read the
following precautions before uncrating and for subsequent handling:
1. Insure that load on pump shaft is equalized by using two pick-up points: one at each end of
rotor normally between first and second impellers from end, depending on center of gravity
one point might fall between second and third impellers on light end.
2. Do not lift rotor:
a. with one cable (or strap) at the balance point,
b. with strap around ends of shaft,
c. by one end,
d. when held in bind, however slightly, or
e. with pick-up point inboard of third impeller from end.
Adhere to the following task outline for uncrating and subsequent handling of the rotor:
1. Remove sides and ends of box.
2. Remove fastenings that hold rotor to box, then remove plastic cover.
3. Place a nylon strap or a soft cable around sleeve spacer or impeller hub between first and
second impellers at each end of rotor (see ROTOR HOISTING POINTS figure).
4. Attach ends of nylon straps to hoist and verify that hoist is over center of gravity: if not,
lower rotor and reposition strap on light end between second and third impellers (see ROTOR
HOISTING POINTS figure).
5. Lift rotor straight up and place it in a stable, level location on supports from shipping box (or
their equivalent).
2.1.3.5 Multistage Shaft
To lift the bare multistage shaft from the shipping crate and for subsequent handling, proceed as
follows:
