Maximum power output from this laser source is
Class IIIB
.
Light from the edge detect laser is in the red spectrum at
635 nm
for plate edge detection. Maximum power output is
0.8 mW
.
2.4.1 Laser Precautions
Laser power is set at the factory from the NVRAM parameters sup-
plied with the laser. Make sure that you:
Do not power up the platesetter with a laser disconnected.
Never place a mirror or other reflective material in the laser beam.
This action can reflect hazardous light to others working in the
general area.
Remove the protective lid of the optics base only in accordance
with the instructions given in the service procedure.
Wear attenuating laser safety goggles where there is a risk of
direct reflection from a laser beam. If there is no such danger, or
when observing diffused reflected spots from screens and targets,
it is permissible to work without attenuating laser safety goggles.
2.4.2 Laser Safety Shutter
A laser beam shutter, shown in
Figure 2.17 on page 2-23
, is located
on the optics base at the user end. The shutter is closed as a precau-
tion against the beam entering the drum during a service procedure.
The beam can also be switched off using the diagnostics command:
diagnostics/service/optics/laser/ldisable
