Expanding a storage pool
Use this procedure to grow a storage pool.
Before you begin
Before performing this task, verify that storage pools exist and disk drives are available to expand the
storage pool. The best practice is for the pool to be expanded by the same number of drives in the pool,
but this is not always feasible.
About this task
Verify that UIM/P discovery occurs after expansion of the pool; otherwise, space is not seen as available
for provisioning.
Expand the storage group in multiples of the RAID group size.
A storage pool cannot be reduced to its previous size.
Procedure

Log on to the storage device to create the storage pool.

Select
Storage
>
Storage Configuration
>
Storage Pools
.

When the
Pools
window appears, select the storage pool and click
Expand
.

From the
Expand Storage Pool
window, under
Disks
, select
Manual
and click
Select
.

When the
Disk Selection
window appears, verify that
All Cabinets
is selected.

Under
Available Disks
, highlight a disk and use the arrow key to add it to the
Selected Disks
field. Click
OK
.

From the
Expanded Storage Pool
window, view your pool, and click
OK
.

If your selection does not support best practices, an error message appears. You can click
Yes
to
continue or
No
to cancel out and repeat the procedure.

When the confirmation window appears, click
OK
.

To verify that disks have been added, right-click the storage pool and select
Properties
. Select
the
Disks
tab and view the storage pool. The list of disks should include the old disks and the
new ones that were added.
What to do next
Use the expanded capacity to grow existing LUNs or create new ones.
