Backing up the VMware vCenter SQL Server database
Use this procedure to create backup jobs within a Microsoft SQL Server configuration.
Before you begin
•
Confirm that the Microsoft SQL Server
sa
log on is enabled and a password is set for the
account.
•
Ensure that server authentication mode is set to the SQL Server and Windows Authentication
mode. Refer to

Obtain the:

Administrator log on credentials.
—
AMP jump server network address.
—
VMware vCenter SQL Server network address.
—
VMware vCenter SQL Server log on credentials.
About this task
Perform this backup process on a daily basis. Frequency depends upon the client RPO.
Procedure
1
Connect to the client AMP environment jump server.

From the jump server, use RDP to access the VMware vCenter SQL database server.

Log on as the administrator.

To run the
SQL Server Management Studio
application, navigate to the application and select
Start
>
All Programs
>
Microsoft SQL Server 2008
>
SQL Server Management Studio
.

Log on to the application.

In the
Server type
field, verify that Database Engine appears. If not, select it.

If the
Server name
field is not auto-filled, select
(local)
. If no matching account exists, log on
with administrator privileges.

Authentication
field, verify that
Windows Authentication
appears. If not, select it.
