Kohler Engine Speed and Throttle Adjustment Addendum

7.

The governed idle can be adjusted by bending 
the tab that holds the light spring that applies 
tension between the governor bracket and the 
governor arm.  It should be set to achieve steady 
idle of 1,300 RPM. See Figure 7a.3.

8.

After the governed idle is set, the carburetor 
throttle stop should be set: See Figure 7a.4.

•

Apply light force to the governor arm, bringing 
the engine below governed idle speed pushing 
the throttle arm against the throttle stop screw.

•

Adjust the throttle stop to 1,100 RPM using a 
phillips head screw driver.

After the idle and throttle stop are set, check and 
adjust top no-load speed. See Figure 7a.5.

•

Apply light force to the governor input arm bring-
ing it against the stop.

•

The engine should reach 3,600 RPM.

•

If adjustment is necessary, use a pair of 6mm 
wrenches to adjust the length of the bolt that 
transfers movement from the governor input arm 
to the silver-colored intermediate governor arm. 

10.

Eliminate any linkage bind and play before 
attempting to  adjust the linkage:

•

Clean, lubricate, or replace the cable if neces-
sary to achieve proper function.

•

Clean, lubricate, or repair the pedal assembly as 
necessary to achieve proper function.  Dry lubri-
cants such as graphite or PTFE are preferred.
