6d. Remove the remaining fasteners that hold
the fender to the vehicle: See Figure 7.9.
•
Remove the two screws that hold the front edge
of the fender to the upright that the rear tube of
the OPS mounts to using a 5/16” wrench.
•
Remove the single screw that holds the top of
the fender to the frame using a 1/2” wrench.
•
Remove the gas cap.
6e. Remove the fender: See Figure 7.10.
•
Pull the fender out slightly at the top to provide
freedom of movement around the fuel filler neck.
•
Lift the fender up at the back to pull the front
edge clear of the channel it locks into.
•
Pull the fender off of the vehicle.
•
Replace the gas cap.
6f. The high tension lead and spark plug can
be reached through an opening between
the top frame member and the fuel tank.
See Figure 7.11.
6g. A deep 5/8” socket with a flex-joint and
and extension can be used to easily
remove the spark plug.
6h. When installing spark plugs, tighten them
to a torque of 18-22 ft-lb. (24.5-30 N-m).
NOTE:
Do not apply anti-seize compound to the
plugs. When serviced at the proper intervals,
spark plugs are made with sufficient corrosion
resistance to be removed without risk of dam-
age. Some anti-seize compounds may actually
promote a galvanic reaction between the dissim-
ilar metals that causes the spark plug threads to
corrode. Lubricant on the threads also throws-
off the torque values.
