APPENDIX C SPEAKERPHONE
CHARACTERISTICS
When using your EP100G-L12/EP100G-I12, the microphone and
loudspeaker are farther away from you than when you use a handset.
Both the signal from the loudspeaker and the signal to the micro-
phone must be strengthened.
When microphones and loudspeakers are close together (such as in a
speakerphone), additional amplification typically generates an echo
or ringing sound (public address systems do this if the volume is too
high or the microphone is too close to a loudspeaker).
C.1 Full-Duplex Speakerphone
Characteristics
The EP100G-L12/EP100G-I12 speakerphone uses the latest full-
duplex speakerphone technology. (Full-duplex technology enables
both parties on a speakerphone call to speak simultaneously—half-
duplex speakerphones allow only one person to speak at a time.)
At the beginning of each call the endpoint must perform an “echo
training” test. To achieve optimum performance from the full-duplex
speakerphone, Comdial recommends that each user in turn speak
about 10 consecutive words to allow the endpoint to “train” itself.
Note that during the echo training test, the speakerphone is operating
in half-duplex mode.
Note
: Pressing any button (mute, hold, etc.) on the EP100G-L12/
EP100G-I12 while in full-duplex mode causes the endpoint to per-
form the echo training test again. For example, if you press MUTE
while in full-duplex mode, when you release the call from mute, the
endpoint performs the entire echo training test again. Sudden
changes in echo also causes the endpoint to automatically perform
the echo training test again.
