Taking a Reading
1. Once the appropriate sensor has been applied to the patient, turn the unit on. The N-20P automatically tests
its circuitry and lights the entire display. If a problem is detected, an error message is displayed.
NOTE
: During operation, the constant pitch beeper sounds once for each pulse, and the pulse amplitude
indicator reflects pulse strength at the sensor site. If no sensor is detected, dashes are displayed.
2. During the self-test, check whether PR ON or PR OFF is displayed. To select the printer option required,
push the Printer ON button, also use this button to turn the printer off.
3. To turn the N-20P off before the measurement cycle ends, rapidly press the measure button two times.
Installing Batteries
The N-20P operates on four 1.5 V alkaline "C" cell batteries. Do not use off-the-shelf rechargeable batteries;
this type of battery can cause the low battery indicator to be inaccurate.
1. Remove the battery access door by pressing the battery compartment access door latch.
2. Install four alkaline "C" cell batteries. Be sure to observe the polarity indicator sticker.
3. Replace the battery cover access door.
Loading/Clearing Printer Paper
The N-20P uses a thermal paper that can show printed characters on one side only. Make sure that the paper roll
is correctly installed; always refer to the graphical instruction label found on the paper roll.
1. Press down and outward on the top of the paper compartment door to remove it.
2. Feed the paper into the paper compartment slot; refer to the graphic label for orientation.
3. Press and hold the ADV button until the end of the paper appears at the paper exit slot.
4. Replace the paper compartment door.
If the paper jams either during the loading process or during printing, proceed as follows:
1. Remove both the paper door and the printer-head access cover.
2. Firmly grab and pull the paper roll backward – out and away from the print head – observe the print head
access to determine whether or not the paper escaped from the jammed position.
