The COLIN Story
From its beginning over a quarter of a century ago, COLIN MEDICAL INSTRUMENTS CORP. and its family
of companies has a history of innovation and excellence, and is widely recognized for its engineering,
manufacturing, and marketing of non-invasive blood pressure monitoring instruments. The expertise of research
facilities around the world, including internationally renowned Southwest Research Institute in San Antonio,
Texas, and Stanford Research Institute International in Menlo Park, California, has contributed to Colin’s
success.
Technological Leadership
COLIN’S commitment to research has generated the maximum return. COLIN is the only company in the world
with three distinct non-invasive blood pressure measurement technologies: the
auscultatory
method, which uses
a microphone to detect Korotkoff sounds is found in COLIN’S ambulatory and stress test blood pressure
monitors; the
oscillometric
method, found in COLIN’S vital signs monitors; and
arterial tonometry
, an
exceptionally unique technology offering continuous non-invasive blood pressure for monitoring and diagnostic
purposes.
Over 450,000 non-invasive blood pressure instruments have been manufactured by COLIN and are
marketed worldwide under COLIN trade names and those of many other respected manufacturers,
such as North American Draëger, Nellcor, Fresenius, B. Braun, Ivy Biomedical and Quinton, who use
COLIN’s technology (OEM) inside their own brand-name products.
Consistent with worldwide research efforts on blood pressure and non-invasive monitoring, Colin has wisely
invested in studies conducted in collaboration with leading U. S. research institutes and universities. These
projects have resulted in a number of significant contributions to patient monitoring technology, including Colin’s
continuous beat-to-beat non-invasive blood pressure monitor based on arterial tonometry. Today, Colin has more
than 150 employees, worldwide, who are exclusively assigned to engineering research.
Market Served
Non-invasive blood pressure instruments currently manufactured by COLIN range from monitoring devices
(portable vital signs monitors and multiparameter patient monitors) to diagnostic devices (stress-test monitors and
units featuring arterial tonometry). These have applications in clinical areas, including anesthesia, post anesthesia
care, critical care, emergency room, labor and delivery, neonatal intensive care, medical surgical nursing,
cardiology, dialysis, electro physiology, as well as other special procedure labs.

part of Colin’s successful business strategy. Extensive research and development, professional sales
representatives, an expert technical staff, responsive customer services, and dedicated management team all play
essential roles in Colin’s commitment to its customers and the advancement of health care delivery, worldwide.
