7.8 Using the 3000A-CL Electronic Calibrator
Since a complete calibrator Operation Manual is shipped with every 3000A-CL calibrator, the information it
contains is not repeated here. However, before attempting to use a 3000A-CL calibrator, and, before attempting
to adjust calibration offset, please read the instruction manual carefully. Pay careful attention to the special
section at the end of the instructions, entitled: “Do’s and Don’t’s of Using the 3000A-CL Electronic Calibrator.”
7.9 Using a Blackbody in a Stirred Water Bath
Since the instructions for using the Sherwood Medical “blackbody” adapter are written as a separate document,
contact Sherwood Medical at 800-535-5158 for more information.
7.10 Calibration Self-Check: FILAC
The F-2000 automatically performs a calibration check each time it is turned on by reading fixed precision
calibration resistances built into the F-2000 circuitry and comparing the readings to programmed ideal values.
This test is transparent to the user. If the test fails, the F-2000 will alert the user by continuously flashing a “bAd
CAL” message.
If the calibration self-check fails, the F-2000 may be recalibrated using one of two methods. The factory
calibration procedure is the more accurate of the two and requires the use of an accurate digital volt meter and
resistor decade box. The field calibration procedures is much easier to perform and requires no special test
equipment. Though the field calibration procedure is not quite as accurate as the factory calibration procedure, it
will still yield results within the F-2000 specific 0.2ºF (+ 0ºC).
7.11 Factory Recalibration Procedure
(Refer to PCB Schematic and Assembly Diagram)
Equipment Required:
Digital Volt Meter, 1 mv Resolution
Resistor Decade Box
Mini Clip Leads
1. Remove the probe from the monitor.
2. Carefully remove the F-2000 case top, leaving the fascia and battery compartment in place.
3. Replace the battery compartment screw to hold the door closed during calibration.
4. Set the DIRECT?NORMAL switch to the “direct” position.
5. Connect resistor decade box to pins 2 and 3 of a J1. Set the decade box to 8343 ohms +/- 2 ohms.
6. Connect the DVM to T1-2 (-) and T1-7 (+).
7. On J1, the probe jack, jumper between pins 1 and 4 with a clip lead. Next, jumper between T1-2 and J1-4.
Display will read approximately 85.0.
