Service and Maintenance
. . . 214
The engine in your vehicle is
designed to accept unleaded
gasoline only. The use of leaded
gasoline could affect your vehicle’s
performance as well as your
vehicle's warranty.
Note:
The fuel tank has a narrow fuel
filler neck and only the smaller
unleaded fuel pump nozzle will
fit in it. The larger leaded fuel
pump nozzle will not fit.
It is recommended that gasoline
meet specifications described in
the World-Wide Fuel Charter
available from the Alliance of
Automobile Manufacturers at
www.autoalliance.org.
Use of the recommended fuel is
an important part of the proper
maintenance of your vehicle.
You should use a high quality fuel
which meets the minimum octane
rating recommended.
See "Recommended Fuel" later in
this section.
The use of gasoline with an
octane rating lower than that
recommended may cause engine
knock. Continued use can cause
engine damage and void the
warranty.
If you detect a heavy engine knock
even when using a gasoline of the
recommended octane rating, have
the engine checked. Short periods
of engine knock during hill
climbing and acceleration are
acceptable.

Catalytic Converter
(If equipped)
Vehicles designed to run on
unleaded fuel are equipped with a
catalytic converter.
Do not use leaded fuel.
The fuel tank has a narrow fuel
filler neck and only the smaller
unleaded fuel pump nozzle will fit
in it. The larger leaded fuel pump
nozzle will not fit.
NOTICE
If you are having trouble
starting the engine, and you
continue trying to start it while
the accelerator pedal is pressed,
the catalytic converter could be
damaged by imperfect
combustion.
CAUTION
Do not drive your vehicle if the
engine is running rough or if it
lacks power.
Operating your vehicle under
these conditions may result in
serious damage to the catalytic
converter and other vehicle
components.
If any of the following conditions
exist, you should see your dealer
for service as soon as possible:
• The engine misfires.
• The engine runs rough
following a cold start.
• The engine loses power.
• The vehicle exhibits unusual
operating conditions which
may indicate a fault in the
ignition system.
