4. Reapply the regular brakes.
Then apply your parking
brake, and then shift to
P
(Park) for an automatic trans-
mission or into
1
(First Gear)
or
R
(Reverse) for a manual
transmission.
5. Release the regular brakes.
When you are ready to leave after
parking on a hill, be sure to hold
the regular brake pedal down
while you start the engine, shift
into gear and release the parking
brake.
Drive slowly until the trailer is clear
of the chocks.
Stop and have someone pick up
and store the chocks.
CAUTION
Make sure that anyone remov-
ing the wheel chocks stands to
the side of the trailer, not
behind the trailer. Otherwise, if
the brakes or hitch were to slip,
the trailer could roll and the
person could be injured.
Maintenance When Trailer
Towing
Your vehicle will need service more
often when you're pulling a trailer.
See the Maintenance Schedule for
more on this.
Check periodically to see that all
hitch nuts and bolts are tight.
