CAUTION
Child restraint anchors are only
designed to be used for their
intended purpose.
The lower anchors are only
designed to anchor child
restraints equipped with lower
attaching points.
Do not use the brackets to hold
safety belts, harnesses or any
other items or equipment.
SECURING A CHILD RESTRAINT
WITH LOWER ATTACHING
POINTS AND TOP STRAP
To secure a child restraint
designed for this system:
1. Locate the anchors where the
seatback meets the back of
the seat cushion.
The location of each lower
anchor is identified by a
circular mark on the lower
edge of the rear seatback.
- Note:
To access this bracket on
hatchback models, unzip the
two anchor covers in the seat
cushion.
2. Clear all items off the seat.
3. Place the child restraint on the
seat.
4. Attach the anchor points on
the child restraint to the
anchors in the vehicle. Follow
the instructions that come
with the restraint.

5. If your child restraint has a top
strap, you may need to attach
the top strap to the top strap
anchor.
Consult the manufacturer’s
instructions to determine
when and how to tighten the
top strap.
See "Top Strap" earlier in this
section.
6. Push and pull the child
restraint in different directions
to make sure it is secure.
7. Make sure the child restraint is
not too hot before placing a
child there.
CAUTION
• Hatchback Models:
Do not leave the lower
anchor covers open
(unzipped) when the anchors
are not in use.
Otherwise, foreign objects
could accumulate around the
anchors. This would interfere
with the proper latching of
the restraint to the anchors.
If you have been in a severe
collision the anchoring system
may have been damaged. Some
parts may need to be repaired or
replaced. Have the anchoring
system inspected after a collision.
